ALL THROWN TOGETHER
Years and years ago it dawned on me at work that I had spent more of my week with a particularly irritating and graceless colleague than with my girlfriend or anybody else that I cared about. It's amazing that you can spend up to 40 hours a week with someone you barely connect with, just because you happen to have the same owner.
Anyway, the thought needled me for a good while before I wrote this song. It's a bit bleak I suppose, as whoever the song is about has clearly made no choices at all about who they spend their time with, literally from cradle to grave. Every verse describes how the people they really wanted to be with went elsewhere en masse. Maybe it said more about that person than it did about the social condition.
This song is from The Dog End Man And The Pigeon Lady.
